The indicators of SDG 6.3.2, "Proportion of water bodies with good environmental water quality" and 6.6.1, "Change in the extent of water-related ecosystems over time" are useful to ensure the availability of water, sustainable management and basic sanitation for all.

The workshop was held within the framework of the project "South-South Cooperation and capacity building for the GEO 6 Latin America and the Caribbean process." The objective of this project is to strengthen the capacities of the countries in the region, to monitor the state and trends of the environment and the implementation of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, the initiative for Sustainable Development of the Forum of Ministers for Latin America and the Caribbean (ILAC) and other relevant multilateral environmental agreements for the region in follow-up to the Andean Congress on Data for SDGs held in March 2017.

The workshop organized by UN Environment Colombia, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), together with experts from the United States, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia , Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Colombia show how the capacities of Latin America and the Caribbean are being strengthened to monitor the status and trends of water resources in the continent.

The participants had the opportunity to learn about the progress of the Carebian countries, Costa Rica and Panama in the process of implementing the methodologies of the indicators that are part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
